Paul Komoda's Mutant Gillman

The first of many drawings from an early Paul Komoda sketchbook, we present to you, "The Mutant Gillman."

In the coming months, I'll be posting some pages from the sketchbook I kept in the late 90's, prior to the one that's gained a degree of notoriety of late.

There was a period in the 90's when many deformed frogs were appearing bearing clusters of extra legs due to chemical changes in the ecosystem.

I simply applied that condition to a creature that might not take it so passively!

  1. I really enjoy seeing your sketches on this type of paper, Paul. The dark washes you use around the perimeter of the subject always accents it so well.

  3. WOW.
    I agree with Alter Egos.
The brown paper makes it look like a biologist's sketch from an observation on an expedition. Like early explorers to new continents. I half expect a taxonomic, latin name.
    Great character
